From A Native New Yorker: Where to Take Photos
If you’re visiting NYC any time soon, you’ll have a pretty busy itinerary. Wether you’re trying to take in all of the delicious food, or walking around the various neighborhoods that are like mini countries, you’ll definitely need to take photos. Many people tend to go to most popular places like the Brooklyn Bridge, however there are quite a few photo locations in NYC that don’t often get the credit they deserve. Here are some of my favorite places to take photos in NYC:
Nomo Kitchen: This is the entrance to a restaurant in soho. Snap a pic here and grab some lunch. The food is a bit pricey but pretty good in my opinion.
Soho: Not only is it a great neighborhood for shopping, but soho photos don’t miss! The area os full of high end stores, greenery and cobblestone streets that’s pretty similar to Europe. One of my favorite streets to shoot content is Greene street just outside of Tiffany & Co. I also love Wooster street because it’s cobblestone and lastly these white pillars on Grand street (between Broadway and Cosby) will never get old. They are next to a Wells Fargo bank.
Bow Bridge: This cute bridge in Central Park offers a different view from the rest of the bridges here. Hop on the subway or take an uber and do a quick photo shoot here. Central Park is huge so bring a blanket to sit in the grass or pop a squat on the bench.
One Vanderbilt: Did you come to NYC without a 360 view of our skyline? If not then check out this summit. Note: there is an entrance fee for this one of $27.
Eataly: If you love a colorful backdrop check out this food cart across from the Flatiron building.
Freeman’s Alley: A little colorful graffiti corner that mostly locals and natives know about. It’s located in the Lower East Side and it’s known for it’s vibrant colors. At the end of the alley there’s a restaurant called Freeman’s that actually has a really good brunch.
East Midtown: Or as I like to call it, the land of the rich. Take a stroll through one of NYC’s most expensive neighborhoods and take some photos. Be mindful that people live here so try not to spend too much time in front of someones home. I snapped this photo on the corner of Ralph’s Coffee Shop.
The Vessel: Although it’s no where near as tall as any of our other skyscrapers, its design is more unique than the rest. Take the 6 train over to Hudson Yards and get creative with your angles of this building. Then head over to the mall right behind it and do some shopping.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Some of the most greatest art in the world sits in this building and with quite a bit of stairs out front, it makes a great photo op. Bring your brightest colors and make yourself stand out here.
Subway Station: You can’t visit NYC without riding the subway at least once. With tons of stops all over the city, take your pick and grab your photo op. Some popular train stops for phots are 18th street, 23rd street, 34th street and 42nd street (Times Square).
NYC has so many different photo stop locations across Brooklyn, Queens in Manhattan. It’s impossible to get to them all but this guide should be able to give you exactly what you need for your NYC photoshoot. Happy shooting!
