The Perfect New York Getaway
Just a 2 hour drive from the busy city of New York lies the perfect place to unplug and getaway from all of the chaos. After being home for 5 months, it became necessary for me to get out and explore. Since I wont be able to visit any other country, I figure I can explore my own backyard. So I decided to take a short drive from home and unplug in the Catskills with Getaway House.
Getting Here: Getaway house in Catskills is a 2 hour drive from New York City. There are 2 locations: Catskills East and West. There are also other Getaway locations outside other major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, Houston and Washington D.C. and they are all about 2 hours away. The check-in process was seamless and nothing like your typical hotel. Prior to my arrival, I received a text message from with the exact address, cabin number and a 4 digit code to open the cabin door. I simply pulled up to my cabin, parked my car in the space right in front and entered the code to get inside.
The Cabins: This small, adorable and cozy cabin was the perfect place to relax and unwind. The cabin is fully equipped with necessities such as electricity, running water, a shower, utensils, pots, pans and plates. You can purchase some snacks and a few things to cook such as pasta as sauce on the stove. There is also a beautiful campfire setup with chairs and picnic tables. I cooked my food on the stove as well as the campfire. Fire wood is available for purchase for $6.50 per bundle. I loved how the neighboring cabins were still in sight but also spread apart. Your cabin neighbors can be between 20 to 50 feet away from you making it perfect for social distancing.
The Unplug: I spent two peaceful nights in my getaway house and it was a much needed time to decompress. I was able to clear my head and enjoy the silence of nature without being so caught up in my phone and lap top. A nice touch was the wooden cell phone lock box included. Although there was no television in the cabin, I was able to find other things to do to enjoy myself. the special touches of the cabin from a deck of playing cards, to a radio, and a smores kit, made the getaway house full of every thing I wanted to feel at home. If you want to get outside of your cabin, there is a pamphlet included of things in the area to do. I visited Kaaterskill falls which was just a 30 minute drive and a 20 minute moderate hike.
In a post Covid travel era, it’s most important that we travel safely while still enjoying ourselves. After traveling to 40 countries, my stay at this getaway house taught me that I don’t need to get on a plane to enjoy a destination and more importantly, there is a whole lot to see right in my own state.
I was welcomed as a guest by Getaway but all opinions, words and photography are my own. Use my code ‘MSWALKER’ at checkout for $25 off of your booking.
